So what sets this L88 apart from the other 115 1969 L88s? Tony DeLorenzo.
After having so much success (and fun) racing an L88, in early 1969 Tony DeLorenzo special ordered #20068, a triple black convertible L88 to use as a driver.
Of course he couldn’t leave it stock. He wanted his driver to match his racer so Tony modified the car and added chrome Kustom exhaust headers, FIA headlight assemblies, fender flares and a urethane bumper.
In December of 1969, DeLorenzo sold the car to Curt Wetzel who raced the car throughout Germany. And rather successfully, much to the chagrin of the Porsche team, who, fed up by losing to the L88, eventually bought the car to get it off the track.
The car continued to race throughout Europe, changing hands, until finding a home with Joe DeMesy of Dallas, Texas. DeMesy sent the car to Ken and Gary Naber for a complete frame-off restoration. The car now belongs to Brian Bolotin of New York.
